The foolishness of God

The world is full of mystery
From mountaintops to ocean blue
People try to understand
It seems it's all we do

We dissect the beasts of the earth
We X-ray the birds of the air
We even radar the earth itself
To see what all lies there

But alas! An answer to be found
There has been and always will
A solution to our futile plight
It reads "And He said, Let there be light"

So simple and complete an answer
Too simple for some it seems
For those who enjoy debauchery
And refuse to give up their dreams

So they discount the Almighty as an ancient myth
And try in vain to measure existences width
They try to learn how fast light flies
All I have to say is why?

Why do we need to know these things
What purpose does it serve?
Does it make living better somehow
To know what happens when a star dies?

These things intrigue to be sure
They capture the curiosity
But long ago a man once said
To serve the Spirit, not the body

That's not to say live in ignorance
That to learn we should not try
We simply need to keep in mind
Where our priorities lie

It seems we have to know everything
A complete understanding of the universe
But let me ask you this my friend
What is the practicality of this?


My curiosity used to be insatiable
To an extent it still is
But if my studies have one thing to show
It's that there's some things we don't need to know

Will knowing where a black hole leads
Affect our everyday lives?
Or how a nebula forms stars
Improve our relationship with our wives?

What if we don't know this or that?
We'll still be here in the end
Or will knowing how the cosmos work
Help us live longer with our husband?

You try to show scientifically
What I already know
The answer is plain for all to see
But your afraid to admit you're not in control

So you try to prove God does not exist
And try to convince me
Fool me once, false prophesy
There will be much weeping and gnashing of teeth

You claim to search out new things O hypocrites
But when true miracles occur
You discount them as coincidence
In doing so the truth you blur

The proof of Christ is in front of thee
But you still refuse to just believe
You instead throw sand in your own eyes
So you don't have to see

But for those who know gods majesty
The Son and Spirit too
And know the world as He intended
The kingdom will open to you

Do not try to understand God
That is impossible
Just try to enjoy his presence
In everything you do
